In 2018, college and alumni brothers of the Beta Gamma Chapter, 4th District, began an ambitious journey to leave an indelible mark on Virginia State University. Their vision? A monumental tribute to Alpha Phi Alpha’s ideals of “Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind.” Six years later, in October 2024, that vision became reality: the Beta Gamma Greek Plot stands proudly as a masterpiece of artistry, engineering, and brotherhood.

What was the result?A breathtaking, 15-piece collection featuring:

• Six Alpha letters weighing 900 lbs each,
• A stunning 4,000-lb centerpiece, hand-carved from a solid, unbroken piece of granite symbolizing the fraternity’s enduring bonds,
• Seven hand-etched cubes weighing 1,100 lbs each, honoring the images of the seven Jewels, and
• One engraved history plaque.

Together, these pieces form a living monument to Beta Gamma’s legacy for all visitors to Virginia State University’s campus to enjoy.
In addition, a collection of 600 engraved bricks commemorating Beta Gamma’s complete lineage. The craftsmanship speaks volumes: Every detail, from the president-elect’s raised fist on the seven Jewels to the seamless construction of the massive Phi letter, reflects the dedication and artistry poured into this project.

Bringing this monumental vision to life required not only art but also exceptional expertise and collaboration across the globe. Doaa Fahmy, the designer of record & Iron Egypt and Pledge Stones, LLC, and Studio Z Architecture, served as the granite fabricator and Architect/Engineer of Record on the project.
The Beta Gamma Greek Plot is more than a collection of granite sculptures. It is a beacon of inspiration, connecting generations of Alpha phi Alpha brothers and reminding all who visit the plot of the fraternity’s unwavering commitment to the ideals of brotherhood, service, and excellence as Beta Gamma prepares to celebrate their centennial year of inception in 2026.

As we stand in awe of this remarkable achievement, we’re reminded that our legacy is not merely inherited — it is built. Just as the brothers of Beta Gamma came together with a shared vision, we must continue to build on this foundation of excellence, striving for greatness in all we do. Wherever there is a monument, the Beta Gamma Chapter declares boldly: We are here. We are united. We are Alpha.

The brothers of the Beta Gamma Chapter undertook a purposeful effort to redefine how our presence, our work, and our legacy were reflected across the digital landscape. What began as a commitment to represent the fraternity with dignity and excellence evolved into a initiative to craft a visual narrative depicting the ideals of Alpha Phi Alpha. Through planning, consistent execution, and a refined creative direction, our chapter produced a compelling digital footprint that captured not only what we accomplished, but who we are.

The result was a body of work that stood apart: stunning graphics celebrating our graduates, polished designs highlighting the achievements of our brothers, and dynamic media documenting our engagement across campus. Our collaborative D9 photoshoot served as a visual testament to unity within the Divine Nine community, while our coverage of major events — step and stroll performances, campus showcases, and chapter initiatives — demonstrated the vibrancy of Beta Gamma’s presence at Virginia State University.

Still, our social media efforts extended beyond aesthetics. They reflected a deeper purpose: to tell our story with precision, professionalism, and pride. This commitment did not go unnoticed. At the 2024 VSU Student Organization Awards, the Beta Gamma Chapter received the honor of Best Social Media Engagement, a recognition that affirmed the impact of our digital work and the intention behind every image.

Our platforms today stand as an archive of excellence capturing the spirit of brotherhood, the discipline of leadership, and the enduring charge to uplift our community. Through our digital craftsmanship, Beta Gamma demonstrated that storytelling is not merely a practice, but an extension of who we are.

Throughout 2024, the Beta Gamma Chapter strengthened its legacy of service, leadership, and civic engagement through programs designed to uplift both the campus and surrounding community. Guided by the fraternity’s timeless principles, our brothers approached each initiative with deliberate care, recognizing that the work we do today contributes to the foundations future generations will inherit.

Our commitment to community began with impactful outreach beyond campus. Brothers visited Matoaca High School, speaking with students about higher education, personal development, and the importance of academic pursuit. This engagement served as a reminder that leadership begins with inspiring others to envision more for themselves.

On campus, our presence remained both visible and meaningful. We participated in prominent events such as Yard Festival, showcasing fraternity pride through step and stroll performances that energized the student body. In December, we united for Alphas Go Pink, standing in solidarity with breast cancer awareness efforts through month-long programming and visibility. We also hosted a 2024 Election Watch Party, fostering civic awareness and encouraging students to remain engaged in the democratic process.

Our chapter’s work extended into cultural and celebratory spaces as well. Beta Gamma played a vital role in creating a vibrant, memorable Homecoming experience, ensuring that students, alumni, and community members felt welcomed and connected. Each moment, small or grand, reflected our dedication to strengthening the bonds that tie our campus together.
